Detailed Solution

Both phenol and phenoxide ion have five resonance structures each but there is no charge separation in phenoxide ion whereas there is a charge separation in phenol moreover oxygen atom in phenol has positive charge on it. Thus phenoxide is more stable than phenol. Phenol thus ionizes to form phenoxide ion liberating proton. Phenol is acidic.
