Detailed Solution
Aldehydes contain H-atom in their functional group (-CHO).They are very good reducing agents. They get oxidized even in presence of mild oxidizing agents like Tollens, Fehlings, Benedect's reagents to give corresponding carboxylic acids. Ketones cannot get oxidized by mild oxidizing agents. Thus Tollen's, Fehling's and Benedict's test are useful to distinguish aldehydes from ketones.
