Glyceraldehyde contains one asymmetric carbon atom and exists in two enantiomeric forms. All those compounds which can be chemically correlated to (+) isomer of glyceraldehyde are said to have D-configuration whereas those which can be correlated to(-) isomer of glyceraldehyde are said to have L-configuration.
