Detailed Solution
Graphite is manufactured by heating anthracite and SiO2 is an electric furnance SiO2 combines with carbon at 3000°C for 24 hours to form SiC+CO. SiC further on heating to higher temperature forms Si + C. Its structure isSince in graphite three of the valencies of C- atom are covalently bonded to three other C-atoms while its fourth electron is held in one layer which forms π -bond.While in diamond all valencies are satisfied are satisfied by covalent bonding .So diamond is chemically inert while graphite is active chemically.Hence choices (a), (b), (c) are correct while (d) is wrong.
