Question

Which of the following statements is wrong about the reaction.

4CrO5+6H2SO4 2Cr2SO43+6H2O+7O2

Moderate
Solution

It changes to +3 in Cr2(SO4)3

3e+Cr6+Cr3+ (reduction) (acts as oxidant)

Whereas O in CrO5 changes to O2

2OO2+2e (oxidation) (acts of reductant)

So, CrO5 acts as oxidant and reductant both.

and also it is intramolecular redox reaction since in CrO5, both Cr and O undergoes oxidation and reduction reaction.
