The given equation is x2+xα+β=0    ….. ( 1 ) α,β  are the roots ( 1 )  ∴  sum of the roots : α+β=−α  and Product of the roots : αβ=β ⇒α=1                                                   [∵β=0 does not satisfy (1)] ∴  1+β=−α ⇒  β=−1−α=−1−1=−2 .
