Arranging the given data in ascending order, we have 34,39,42,44, 46, 49, 54, 55, 63,70,
Median $M = \frac{46 + 48}{2} = 47$ ( $∴$ n = 10, median is the mean of 5th and 6th items)
$\begin{matrix} ∴ Mean deviation = \frac{Σ |x_{i} - M|}{n} \\ = \frac{Σ |x_{i} - 47|}{10} \\ = \frac{13 + 9 + 5 + 3 + 1 + 1 + 7 + 8 + 16 + 23}{10} \\ = 8 .6 \end{matrix}$
