$\begin{array}{l} Median, M = \frac{46 + 48}{2} = 47 \\ (∵ n = 10, median is the mean of 5 th and 6 th items) \\ ∴ Mean deviation = \frac{Σ |x_{i} - M|}{n} \\ = \frac{Σ |x_{i} - 47|}{10} = \frac{13 + 9 + 5 + 3 + 1 + 1 + 7 + 8 + 16 + 23}{10} = 8.6 \end{array}$
