Question

ABC is a right angled isosceles triangle with AB = BC and  B=900.  Two body of mass ‘m’ are placed at A and C, the resultant force on 2kg mass placed at ‘B’ make an angle ….with line BC is

Moderate
Solution

Force on 2kg due to mass ‘m’ at A and B is F1=F2

Resultant force makes an angle 450  with ‘BC’

universal gravitation constant=G; mass=m; distance=r;  Force of attraction between two masses=Gm1m2r2 from parallelogram law of addition of vectors, resultant force magnitude is F=F12+F22+2F1F2cosθ     here θ=90  cos90=0 hence FR=F12+F22 since F1=F2=F  FR=F12+F12 FR=2F1 tanθ=F2Sin90F1+F2Cos90=1=tan45   θ=45
