Question

An aluminium wire is wound on a piece of cork of mass 10 g. The densities ρc,ρa and ρwof cork, aluminium and water are 0.5×103 kg/m3, 2.7×103 kg/m3 and 1×103 kg/m3 respectively. The minimum mass of aluminium wire that should be wound on the cork so that the cork with the wire should stay completely submerged in water is:

Moderate
Solution

Let mass of Aluminium is m, then in floating condition
(m + 10)g =(Vc + Va)ρwg (m+10)g =100.5×103+m2.7×103103g=m16g
