If the 4 kg block is pulled to the right by a force F, tension in the string is found to be 20 N. If the 2 kg block is pulled to the left by the same force F, tension in the string will be

Solution

In both cases acceleration (a) of the system will be the same. In the first case, $20 = 2 \times a$ and in the second case, $T = 4 \times a$
$∴ T = 4 \times \frac{20}{2} N = 40 N$
