In the arrangement shown in figure, there is no friction between the block and the surface. Find the acceleration of the block when it just loses contact with the surface.

Solution

When the block loses contact with the surface, $2 tsin 30^{o} - 20 = 0 \Rightarrow t = 20 s$
$∴$ Acceleration $a = \frac{2 tcos 30^{o}}{2} = 20 \times \frac{\sqrt{3}}{2} m / s^{2} = 10 \sqrt{3} m / s^{2}$
