Solution

N = Normal reaction of the table on block A = 40 N
Frictional force on A, $f_{\max} = 30 N$
$∴ R = \sqrt{N^{2} + f_{\max}^{2}} = \sqrt{40^{2} + 30^{2}} N = 50 N$
