In the arrangement shown, there is no friction between the 3 kg block and ground, but the coefficient of static friction between 2 kg block and 3 kg block is 0.8. If the blocks move together without any relative motion between them, then the frictional force acting on the 3 kg block is

Solution

a = Acceleration of the system of blocks $= \frac{20}{2 + 3} m / s^{2} = 4 m / s^{2}$
$∴ f = 3 x 4 N = 12 N$
