An arrow is shot into air. Its range is 200 m and its time of flight is 5sec. If g = 10 m/s², then the horizontal component of velocity of the arrow is

Solution

$R = \frac{u^{2} \sin 2 θ}{g} = 200 m$
$∴ R = \frac{u^{2} (2 \sin θcos θ)}{g} = 200 m$ …. (1)
Flight time, $t = \frac{2 usin θ}{g} = 5 \sec$ ….(2)
Solving eqs. (1) and (2), we get
$u = \cos θ = 40 m / s$
