When the satellite is stopped, its kinetic energy is zero and total energy is only potential energy. This is given by

Potential energy of the satellite on the earth
E2=GmMR
loss of potential energy
=E1E2=GmM2RGmMR=GmM2R
This is converted into kinetic energy. Hence
12mv2=GMm2R
or v2=GMR=gR
or v=(gR)
