A and B are two identical spheres the walls of the spheres are made of material having high thermal conductivity. A and B are connected to each other via a stopcock which is initially closed, A contains an ideal gas at pressure P. What will be the pressure of gas in A a long time after the stop cock is opened?

Solution

Since the walls of the spheres are made of good thermal conductors, heat flows into the spheres from outside and keep the temperature of gas constant. Since number of moles remains constant, $n = \frac{P^{1} \times 2 V}{T R} = \frac{P \times V}{R T} \Rightarrow P^{1} = \frac{P}{2}$
