A bar magnet has coercivity of $4 \times 10^{3} A / m$ . It is desired to demagnetize it by inserting it inside a solenoid 12cm long having 60 turns. What current ( in A ) should be sent through the solenoid ?

Solution

Given $H = 4 \times 10^{3} A / m$
$N = 60$
Formula $H = \frac{N i}{L}$
$\Rightarrow i = \frac{H L}{N} = \frac{4 \times 10^{3} \times 0.12}{60} = 8 A$
