A battery of e.m.f. 10 V is connected to resistance as shown in figure. The potential difference $V_{A} - V_{B}$ the points A and B is

Solution

$R_{eq} = 5 Ω, Current i = \frac{10}{5} = 2 A$ and current in each branch = 1 A
Potential difference between C and A,
$V_{C} - V_{A} = 1 \times 1 = 1 V$ …..(i)
Potential difference between C and B,
$V_{C} - V_{B} = 1 \times 3 = 3 V$ …..(ii)
On solving (i) and (ii), $V_{A} - V_{B} = 2 V$
