Solution

Given, $λ = 600 nm = 6 \times 10^{- 7} m$
$a = 1 mm = 10^{- 3} m, D = 2 m$
Distance between the first dark fringes on either side of central bright fringe = width of central maximum
$\begin{array}{l} = \frac{2 λD}{a} = \frac{2 \times 6 \times 10^{- 7} \times 2}{10^{- 3}} \\ = 24 \times 10^{- 4} m = 2 .4 mm \end{array}$
