Question

A bird is diving vertically downwards a fish in water with a velocity of 5 m/s. At the same time the fish is moving vertically downward away from the bird. If the distance of the fish as viewed by the bird remains unchanged, then velocity of the fish is μ=4/3

Moderate
Solution

Distance of the fish as observed by the bird is given by

=ZF/B=x+yμ

ddtZF/B=dxdt+1μdydt=VB+1μVF

Since ZF/B is constant, we can write

VB+1μVF=OVF=μVB=43×5m/s=6.67m/s
