The block shown in the diagram has a mass of 2 microgram and a charge of 2x10^-9 coulomb. If the block is given an initial velocity of 2 ms^-1 in X direction at t = 0 and an electric field of 2 NC^-1 in X direction is switch on at that moment, then R Will be (g= 10 ms^-2)

Solution

Along y-direction
$S_{y} = u_{y} t + \frac{1}{2} a_{y} t^{2}$ …………(1)
$\begin{array}{l} \Rightarrow 5 = 0 + \frac{1}{2} \times g \times t^{2} \\ t = \sqrt{\frac{10}{g}} = 1 s \end{array}$
Along x-direction
$S_{x} = u_{x} t + \frac{1}{2} a_{x} t^{2}$ ……………(2)
$\begin{array}{l} \Rightarrow R = 2 \times t + \frac{1}{2} (\frac{q E}{m}) t^{2} \\ \Rightarrow R = 2 \times 1 + \frac{1}{2} \times \frac{2 \times 10^{- 9} \times 2}{2 \times 10^{- 9}} \times 1 \\ \Rightarrow R = 2 + 1 = 3 m \end{array}$
