A body is displaced from position A to position B under the influence of three forces P₁, P₂ and P₃. Speed of the body remains unchanged. If work done by P₁ is +180J, work done by P₂ is -80 J, then what is the work done by P₃?

Solution

Change in kinetic energy, $Δ K = 0$
By work-energy principle,
$W_{P_{1}} + W_{P_{2}} + W_{P_{3}} = ΔK \Rightarrow 180 + (- 80) + W_{P_{3}} = 0 \Rightarrow W_{P_{3}} = - 100 J$
