Question

A body floats with one-third of its volume outside water and 34 of its volume outside another liquid. The density of another liquid is:

Moderate
Solution

Suppose volume and density of the body be V and ρ respectively The, according to law of floatation in water.

Weight = upthrust

     in water   Vρg = 23wg-------(1)

In liquid, Vρg = 14Lg-----(2)

From (1) and (2),    23wg = 14Lg

or ρLρw = 2314 = 83

or ρL = 83ρw = 83×1 g/cc
