A body is thrown vertically down wards from a height of 48m. It reaches the ground in 2s. Find the initial speed with which it was thrown?

Solution

Given that
$\begin{array}{l} h = 48 m \\ t = 2 s \\ u = ? \\ g = 10 m / s^{2} \end{array}$
$From Equation s = u t + \frac{1}{2} g t^{2}$
$\begin{array}{l} \Rightarrow 48 = u (2) + \frac{1}{2} (10) \times 2^{2} \\ \Rightarrow 48 = 2 u + 20 \\ \Rightarrow 2 u = 48 - 20 \\ ∴ = 28 \\ ∴ u = 14 m / s \end{array}$
