Rectilinear Motion
Question

A body is thrown vertically upward. At half of the maximum height, the velocity of the body is  10m/s. The maximum height reached by the body is

Moderate
Solution

Let ‘u’ be the initial velocity
 At half of the maximum height, let  ‘v’, be the final velocity.
 From equation  v2u2=2as
v2u2=2gh2.........(i)
v1=10m/s
We know that maximum height reached by the body is
h=u22gu2=2ah From (i) 100(2gh)=ghgh=100h=100g=10010=10m

II method: At highest point v=0

v2-u2=2as 02-102=2(-10)h h=5 H2=5 H=10m
