Solution

at steady state. Rate of disintegration is equal to rate of production.
$1000 = Nλλ = \frac{1}{T_{mean}}$
$1000 = \frac{N}{40 \times 60}$
$N = 40 \times 60 \times 10^{3} = 24 \times 10^{5}$
