Solution

When S is open, $i_{1} = \frac{12}{(3 + 1)} A = 3 A$
After S₁ is closed, no current flows through 3Ω resistor and $i_{2} = \frac{12}{1} A = 12 A$ .
$∴ \frac{i_{1}}{i_{2}} = \frac{3}{12} = \frac{1}{4} .$
