Question

For a common-emitter configuration, if α and β have their usual meanings, the correct relationship between α and β is

Moderate
Solution

As we know,

In case of a common emitter configuration, DC current gain, α=ICIE.

where, IC is collector current and IE is emitter current.

AC current gain, β=ICIB  ………..(i)

where, lB is base current.

Also,   IE=IB+IC   …….(ii)

Dividing Eq. (i) by IC, we get

 IEIC=IBIC+1   [from Eq. (i)] 1α=1β+1α=β1+β
