and $\vec{v} = p \hat{i} + q \hat{j}$

Solution

If we resolve $\vec{u} and \vec{v}$ along x-axis and y-axis it is clear that x and y components of $\vec{u}$ are both directed along positive x-axis and positive y-axis respectively and hence 'a' and 'b' both are positive. Where as x and y components of $\vec{v}$ are both directed along positive x-axis and negative y-axis respectively. Hence 'p' is positive and 'q' is negative.
