A diode used in the circuit shown in figure has a constant voltage drop of 0.5 V at all currents and a maximum power rating of 100 mW . What should be the value of resistance ‘R’ connected in series with diode for obtaining maximum current ?

$F o r D i o d e : P = V I \Rightarrow 100 \times 10^{- 3} = 0.5 (I) \Rightarrow I = 0.2 A$
$S o, c u r r e n t 0.2 A s h o u l d f l o w i n t h e c i r c u i t .$
$N o w, V o l t a g e a c r o s s R e s i s t o r = 1.5 - 0.5 = 1.0 V$
$O h m' s L a w : R = \frac{V}{I} = \frac{1.5 - 0.5}{0.2} = 5 Ω$
