First law of thermodynamics

Question

During the melting of a slab of ice at 273 K at atmospheric pressure:
(i) positive work is done by the ice-water system on the atmosphere
(ii) positive work is done on the ice-water system by the atmosphere
(iii) the internal energy of the ice-water system increases
(iv) the internal energy of the ice-water system decreases

NA
Solution

During melting of ice at 273 K, the ice melts to water and there is a decrease in volume.Hence atmosphere will do positive work.
Positive work is done on ice-water system by the atmosphere and the internal energy of the ice-water system increases.
