The equivalent circuit is shown in fig. If a battery is connected between X and Y, the points P and Q are at the same potential becauseC1=C4=C3=C5=4μFHence no charge flows through C2. Now C1 and C5 are in series. Hence 1C′=1C1+1C5or     C′=C1C5C1+C5=4×44+4=2μFSimilarly, C4 and C3 are in series and their equivalent capacitance C" is also 2 μF. Further, C' and C" are in parallel. Hence net capacitance between X and Y=C′+C′′=2μF+2μF=4μF
