An electric dipole placed in a non-uniform electric field experiences

An electric dipole is a system of two equal and opposite point charges separated by a small distance. When placed in a non-uniform electric field the two poles experience unequal forces. As the dipole will feel two forces which are although opposite but not equal, it means net force will be there and as these forces act at different points of a body, a torque is also there.
