The force between two poles is reduced to ‘x’ newtons when their original separation is increased ‘n’ times, it is increased to ‘y’ newtons when their separation is made $\frac{1}{n}$ th of their original value. The relation between ‘x’ and ‘y’ is

Solution

SO, $\Rightarrow x = C . \frac{1}{{(n r)}^{2}} \to (1) [(C) a c o n s \tan t]$
$y = C . \frac{1}{{(\frac{r}{n})}^{2}}$
$\Rightarrow y = n^{2} C / r^{2} \to (2)$
$\frac{x}{y} = \frac{1}{n^{4}} \Rightarrow y = n^{4} x$
