Travelling wave

Question

A heavy ball is suspended from the ceiling of a motor car through a light string. A transverse pulse travels at speed of  60cm/sec on the string when the car is at rest and  62cm/sec  when the car accelerates on a horizontal road.  The acceleration of the car is _________m/sec2.

Moderate
Solution

Initially , T = mg Finally , T1=mg2+ma2=mg2+a2  Given   : V = 60 cm/sec ,  V1=62cm/sec  We know, V=Tμ V1V=T1T 6260=mg2+a21/2mg 1+260=1+a2g21/4 1+1304=1+a2g2 1+430=1+a2g2 a2=215g2 a=215×g a=3.65m/sec2
