Question

An ideal diatomic gas undergoes an isothermal expansion shown by AB curve in the P-V diagram. The amount of heat absorbed by the gas during this process is (take loge5 = 0.7)

Moderate
Solution

ΔQ = ΔU + ΔW

ΔU = nCvΔT = nCv(0) = 0

\therefore \Delta Q = \Delta W

In isothermal process ΔW = nTRloge(V2/V1). Using PV = nTR, we get nTR value as 5PoVo and using loge5 = 0.7, ΔW = 3.5 PoVo
