Solution

Assuming the resistance force or retardation to be constant.
${(\frac{v}{2})}^{2} = v^{2} - 2 a s_{1}$ …(i)
$0 = {(\frac{v}{2})}^{2} - 2 a s_{2}$ …(ii)
Solving these two equations, we get
$s_{2} = \frac{s_{1}}{3} = \frac{3}{3} = 1 cm$ (Given, s₁ = 3 cm)
