Questions

The internal resistance of a cell is the resistance of

a
electrodes of the cell
b
vessel of the cell
c
electrolyte used in the cell
d
material used in the cell

detailed solution

Correct option is C

When we connect the plates of a cell by a wire, an electric current flows in the electrolyte (inside the cell) from the negative plate towards positive plate. The resistance offered by the electrolyte of the cell to the flow of current (ions) through it is called the internal resistance of the cell. Because of this resistance a part of the energy given by the cell is dissipated as heat inside the cell itself.
