A man is travelling at 10.8 kmph in a topless car on a rainy day. He holds an umbrella at an angle of $37^{0}$ with the vertical so that he does not wet. If rain drops falls vertically downwards, what is the velocity of rain ?

Solution

$\vec{v_{m}} = 10.8 \times \frac{5}{18} = 3 m / s$
$\large Tan\theta = \frac{{{V_m}}}{{{V_R}}} \Rightarrow Tan{37^0} = \frac{3}{{{V_R}}} \Rightarrow \frac{3}{4} = \frac{3}{{{V_R}}}$

V_R= 4 ms^-1
