A marble block of mass 2 kg lying on ice when given a velocity of 6 m/s is stopped by friction in 10 s. Then the coefficient of friction is

Solution

Retardation of block is given by
$v = u + at or 0 = 6 + a \times 10 or a = - 6 / 10$
$Now F = μR or ma = μ (mg)$
$∴ μ = \frac{ma}{mg} = \frac{(6 / 10)}{10} = 0.06 .$
