A meal plate of mass 500 g is balanced in mid air by throwing 20 balls per sec, each of mass 5 g vertically up from below, which gets rebounced with the same speed. Find the velocity with which the balls strike the plate (g = 9.8 m/sec²)

Solution

$\begin{array}{l} Mg = N (2 mu) \\ 0.5 \times 9.8 = 20 \times 2 \times 5 \times 10^{- 3} \times u \\ u = \frac{4.9}{0.2} = 24.5 {ms}^{- 1} \end{array}$
