In the meter bridge shown in the figure, when deflection in the galvanometer is zero, length AN = 40 cm. When P and Q are interchanged, what will be the shift of null point?

Easy

Solution

Initially, $\frac{P}{Q} = \frac{40}{100 - 40} = \frac{2}{3}$
Finally, $\frac{x}{100 - x} = \frac{Q}{P} = \frac{3}{2} \Rightarrow x = 60 cm$
$∴ Shift = (60 - 40) cm = 20 cm$
