Question

The moon's distance from the earth is 360000 km and its diameter subtends an angle of 42' at the eye of the observer. Find the diameter of the moon.

Moderate
Solution

Here, angle is very small so diameter  arc

Here, θ=42'=42×1600=42×160×π180=7π1800rad

So, diameter=Rθ=360000×71800×227=4400 km
