Question

nth harmonic of a closed organ pipe is equal to mth harmonic of a open pipe. First overtone frequency of the closed organ pipe is also equal to first overtone frequency of the open organ pipe. Find the value of n, if m = 6.

Difficult
Solution

n(V4Lc)=m(V2L0)

Also, 3(V4Lc)=2(V2L0)

From eq. (2) LcL0=34

From eq. (1) nm=2(LcL0)=64=32=96

n=9ifm=6
