Solution

Let u_A and u_B be the velocities of A and B respectively before impact and v_A and v_B be the velocities of A and B after impact.
Before impact, u_B = 0
p = mu_A
After impact, $p - J$ = mv_A and J = mv_B
Coefficient of restitution, $e = \frac{v_{B} - v_{A}}{u_{A} - u_{B}} = \frac{J - (p - J)}{p}$
$= \frac{2 J - p}{p} = \frac{2 J}{p} - 1$
