A particle of mass 2 kg moves in simple harmonic motion and its potential energy U varies with position x as shown in the figure. The period of oscillation of the particle is

Solution

$∵$    $\frac{1}{2} {kA}^{2} = 1 J$
$∴$    $k = \frac{2}{A^{2}} = \frac{2}{(0.4)^{2}} = \frac{25}{2} {Nm}^{- 1}$
$∴$    $T = 2 π \sqrt{\frac{m}{k}} = 2 π \sqrt{\frac{2}{(25 / 2)}} = \frac{4 π}{5} s$
