Questions

In a photo electric effect experiment orange light is used. If the orange light is replaced by violet light, which of the following options is correct, if intensity of incident light is doubled?

a
Saturation photo current is doubled
b
Stopping potential increases
c
Threshold frequency increases
d
Both (1) and (2) are correct.

detailed solution

Correct option is D

If intensity is doubled, number of photons striking the target metal surface is also doubled and hence saturation photo current is also doubled.Energy of individual photon of violet light is more than that of orange coloured light. As a result maximum kinetic energy of photo electrons increases kmax=hv-ϕ and hence, stopping potential increases.
