A plane flying horizontally at 100 m s^-1 releases an object which reaches the ground in 10 s. At what angle with horizontal it hits the ground?

Solution

$v_{x} = u_{x} = 100 {ms}^{- 1}, v_{y} = u_{y} + a_{y} t = 0 + 10 \times 10$
$\tan θ = \frac{v_{y}}{v_{x}} = \frac{100}{100} = 1 \Rightarrow θ = 45^{\circ}$
