Transistors
Question

The potential difference across the collector of a transistor, used in common emitter mode is 1.5 V , with the collector resistance 3kΩ. Find the emitter current in mA , if gain of transistor is 50.

Moderate
Solution

VCE=1.5V, RC=3kΩ=3000Ω,

β=50

ie=?

We know that, ie=ib+ic   .............(1)

Ohm's Law across output side, ic=VCERC=1.53000=0.5×103A

Gain , β=IcIb Ib=Icβ=0.5×10350=0.01×103A,

Ie=Ib+Ic =0.01×103+0.50×103 =0.51×103=0.51mA
